He/Him - Fighter Wood Elf

Blair

I might put character info here later. For now it's just gonna be those questions you had me answer and a written version of his backstory. (I may illustrate it later or whenever I feel like it :p)

What's his greatest fear?
Losing his sense of purpose and independence. Becoming useless or being fully controlled by an outside force with no way of escaping is his nightmare outcome. His end goal for his life is to have achieved complete freedom and have full autonomy over himself, his greatest fear is essentially just the destruction of his lifelong goals and desires. Or whatever.

-

Does your character daydream? What does he usually keep his mind occupied with?
The majority of the time, he stays alert (either due to necessity or maybe he's just anxious. Fuck if he knows) not allowing himself to daydream. When he does though, it's usually about an ideal life or world that could never exist. And also sometimes cool swords.

-

What does freedom mean to him?
I think I might have already answered that with one of the other questions. Whoopsies. I think mostly to him freedom is independence, kind of like the right to live without being under the dystopian control of another individual. Having access to everything you need to have a fulfilling life and all that bullshit.

-

Does he value selflessness or self-preservation?
Definitely self-preservation. Nearly his entire life he has had to fend for himself, so he has a very Every Man For Himself mindset.

-

How does he feel about the unknown?
It can be scary, but every part of life is at some point strange and new. Especially when you have nothing to lose, there's no risk in exploring the unknown and hoping for potential opportunities.

-

How impulsive is your character?
Enough so to survive. He's had to teach himself to be cautious enough to not get into dangerous, unescapable situations, but there's also been plenty of times where he's had to make quick choices to survive.

-

What is your character the most insecure about?
How strong he is perceived (physically, emotionally, mentally, etc). His greatest insecurity is other people potentially seeing him as weak or easy to take advantage of. Either that or his lackluster social skills.

-

If your character was granted a single use of a wish, what would they use it for?
He would wish for his family to be safe and live contently. He knows that anything else he could achieve by himself with enough effort and time, though he can't handle seeing those he loves suffer, even in the slightest.

-

How does your character feel about receiving/giving orders?
The only orders he would ever follow are those he gives himself. Neither much of a leader or a follower, he's far more socially distant. A bit of a loner one might say. In a group setting and with enough confidence he could lead, but he's far too stubborn to be a follower or listen to anyone else's commands.

-

What was childhood like for you?
It was tough. For the majority of it, he was required to fend for himself, with a mother that was too busy and ill to really care for him and only having younger siblings. He grew up in one of the worst parts of the lowest tier of the city, surrounded by risky places and shifty people. He had to teach himself essentially how to survive on the streets, entirely on his own. That felt kind of dramatic to type out but oh well. He isn't really that cool.

-

What conflicts might arise from your past?
He would certainly conflict with anyone substantially richer or more well-off than him, due to both jealousy and the standoffish need to protect himself. In any fancy or richer parts of the city he would be incredibly uncomfortable, unfamiliar with the atmosphere and nature of the environment. That kind of stuff I guess mostly. Also he's like way too tense all the time because he kind of always had to be as a kid.

-

What is his breaking point? At what point would he resort to violence?
Maintaining his composure would be managable for the most part. When interacting with the government he so despises, or at any mention of his family, his wits seem to lose him. Violence only begins to become a clear outcome once his family and loved ones are harmed or spoken of maliciously. He cares for them deeply, and would harm others to the best of his ability should he feel it is necessary.

Born into a household among the worst of the worst, on the outer edges of the lowest ring, Blair Blightley was a remarkably bright and jubilant child. Despite his dreary surroundings, he was joyful and, for the most part, very happy, shining a light on the lives of those he was around. As a young child, he would do his best to work his share, learning very quickly that to exist you must make your presence useful. He idolized his father, who in turn loved Blair very deeply. Many of Blair's most important life lessons were taught to him by his father whenever they had a comfortable moment of rest.
Though, due to their unfortunate circumstance, the family was often lacking in funds and were consistently rejected from any opportunities to move up in the world. Thus, Blair's father was forced to resort to thievery on a daily basis. It was rarely any theft that would grab someone's attention - only food, pickpocketed money, and basic hygeine items. Even so, the guards that would patrol the lower ring would take any excuse to execute punishment. One particularly bad day, Blair's father slipped up while attempting to swipe from the shelves of a nearby corner store. A petty guard that happened to know his face and name took him without warning, and, within moments, had the man arrested.
Losing his father was devestating to Blair, who, once he learned of this, was in great despair for weeks and months afterwards. With his father now absent, he found himself stepping up in an attempt to provide for his three younger sisters and ill mother. His mother had been suffering frequently due to chronic illness and pain, combined with a lack of professional medical care. More recently though, her symptoms had been growing steadily more intense. In an effort to avoid getting in trouble with the guards, whom he already held a grudge against at this point, he looked for legitimate job openings as much as he could. Even then, it was difficult.
When the news arrived to him through an apathetic letter from the government, stating that his father had passed due to a sudden heart attack, all of his despair over losing his father manifested in anger. Still being only a young teenager, a child, the concept of losing a loved one forever was difficult to stomach. His hatred towards the government for "murdering his father" grew ever stronger, building up day by day. On a September morning, Blair quietly sneaks to the back of a shop near his house. He grabs everything he can fit into his pockets off of the shelf, and turns around face to face with one of the government's guards. Losing all sense, he lashed out and sent the guard to the floor. Present Blair has reflected on this decision, and since learned that it was a stupid mistake.
The two large scars trailing down his face were ever present and mocking from that day forward. The night of that incident his face was split open, bleeding, his skin flayed where the guard's dagger had cut into him. His personality after that day changed drastically, becoming far more skittish, paranoid, and withdrawn. Embarassed that, even after so long spent genuinely trying to help, he could not meaningfully assist his family, he distanced himself from them. While it hurt, he was convinced it would do more good in the long run. Practicing with his weapons and close combat fighting, unwillingly, became a daily activity.
After many years, about in his mid 20's at this point, Blair is a jack of all trades but a master of none. Having never gone to school or grown up with much peer communication, his social skills are greatly lacking and his vocabulary is weak. Still, he is easily able to make it clear what he desires. Thinking to himself that all he wants is to make a better life for himself, to get far away from this horrible city that had wronged him so deeply, to keep his loved ones safe, to avenge his father that no one except for Blair had really payed any mind to, he finds himself in a tavern...
